Poised and statuesque, the Goliath Heron is a quiet presence along rivers and dams. In Goliath Heron, I focused on its graceful stillness and distinctive palette - that striking blend of burnt orange and soft blue-grey, all reflected gently in the water below.

INSPIRATION FOR THIS ARTWORK

These birds are hard to miss... not just for their size... but for their elegant stillness. I often spot them motionless at the edge of the water, eyes sharp, body unmoving. It’s that sense of patience and presence that I wanted to echo in this piece.

The reflections were created with flowing washes to let the watercolours speak - soft... shifting... and grounded in the colours of the bird itself. A quiet companion to the bushveld’s waterways.
