This zebra foal stands poised in a field of glowing bushveld grasses - a perfect blend of bold black stripes and gentle youthfulness. The careful brushwork captures the softness of the foal’s coat and the watchful look in its eye, while the background evokes the long dry grasses of high summer.

INSPIRATION FOR THIS ARTWORK

Another piece from my Africa’s Babies series, this little zebra was a joy to paint. Each foal’s stripe pattern is unique... as individual as a fingerprint... and I loved capturing that personality through soft layering and delicate linework.

Working within the nature of watercolours, I let the textures of the grasses and sky blend loosely while keeping the foal sharp and expressive. These pieces are designed to sit beautifully on their own or be combined in a series for a cohesive collection.
