Brown-hooded kingfishers are regular visitors to my garden - their call carries confidently through the trees, announcing their presence long before they swoop into view.

I love how they perch so still... eyes sharp... waiting for the perfect moment to dart toward their prey. This painting captures that quiet anticipation and the understated beauty in their earthy colours and blue flashes.
