Striking yet delicate, these paradise flycatchers are full of quiet charm - with rich chestnut wings... trailing tails... and those brilliant blue eye-rings. Painted as a pair, they feel balanced and conversational, like a little moment paused in time.

INSPIRATION FOR THIS ARTWORK

These are some of my absolute favourites... the paradise flycatchers that return to nest near my home each year. I've been lucky enough to watch them raise their chicks, flitting back and forth to the daintiest little lichen-decorated nests you can imagine.

For such tiny birds, their calls carry - a crisp, noticeable sound that always lifts my ears and my heart. I wanted to reflect both their boldness and their grace in this piece: elegant lines... soft blends... and the shimmer of life that’s so easy to love.
